BraVI project

The goal is to modify the living environments according to the user’s needs, defined by their mental, behavioral and emotional state. We intend to create an integrated multi-function platform – the BraVI system – which will allow the identification of the user’s status and its translation into changes within immersive virtual reality environments, in a closed-circuit paradigm. The project has a dual purpose: it is aimed at work and domestic environments, which will be addressed through the release of two prototypes (BraVI-Lite 1 and 2). The industrial partners in Southern Italy will put an innovative product on the market, with a high impact on their competitiveness and employment prospects (highly specialized personnel will be required). Partners with a solid scientific background will ensure high quality standards throughout the process, from implementation to validation of prototype systems. The Matching Person and Technology approach will be applied at all levels. The multidisciplinary nature of the project will ensure the dissemination of BraVI’s results and products in neighboring fields. It is common experience that the design of living environments can influence our behavior, well-being, learning and productivity. Smart design emphasizes the ability of the environment to recognize the needs of its inhabitants and makes it more suitable for these needs, satisfying the criteria of sustainability. Furthermore, new insights into neuroscience are now able to explain how we perceive the outside world, how we move in space, and how the environment can affect our knowledge, problem-solving skills and humor. Therefore, the synergy between intelligent architectural design and the principles of neuroscience is able to direct the design of Living Environments by including environmental characteristics that minimize negative physiological, cognitive and emotional effects. The BraVI project represents the meeting point between the technology of the Living Environments and the Neurosciences, taking up the challenge of modifying the living environments according to the needs of the Users, defined as mental, behavioral and emotional states.
